A: This is a very important question and one we are proud to outline. The underlying philosophy of the BASI educational program is a true synthesis of the physical, the emotional and the spiritual. Combining repertoire, process and athleticism into a structured process, BASI Pilates is a leader in the Pilates community, with a curriculum-based educational program. A contemporary approach includes the heart of the BASI program, the Block System™, offering a specialized technique for classifying and combining hundreds of exercises in the Pilates repertoire.
BASI Pilates is a true blending of the Art and Science of human movement, relating specifically to the works of Joseph H. Pilates. BASI Pilates honors and preserves the legacy of Joseph and Clara Pilates: presenting the original principles and repertoire (utilizing all the Pilates equipment), at the same time integrating contemporary scientific developments and evolution of the method.
BASI Pilates courses are fully supported with printed and electronic materials, including our Study Guides, six Movement Analysis Work Books and DVDs. In addition, BASI students receive credits for the use of Pilates Interactive, the unique online teaching resource, with hundreds of exercises, workouts and instructional tutorials in high-quality video. Pilates Interactive is the first of its kind in the world.

A: BASI is proud to offer several programs to meet your personal and professional goals. Find your program and learn more.
A: Individuals with movement experience may seem to progress more quickly through the practical portion. However, regardless of experience, ”every body” has the opportunity to benefit greatly from the qualities the BASI program contains, if they apply themselves.
A: BASI will honor the $200 discount for the Comprehensive Program registration through completion of module 3 of the Foundation Program.
A: Graduates from training programs recognized by BASI are invited to register for ProBridge, the BASI professional bridging program. Alternately, previously trained Pilates professionals receive a significant financial discount on the Foundation Apparatus and Comprehensive Apparatus Programs. The tuition for individuals who provide acceptable proof of previous Pilates teacher training courses is discounted by 15%, and observation, self practice and teacher training hours are amended on a case-by-case basis.
A: Absolutely! In order to progress to the Comprehensive Apparatus Program, students will need to complete the Foundation Program first and will receive 15% off tuition when signing up for both at the same time.
BASI offers limited refunds for students who cancel prior to or during the Program. A $500.00 sum payable upon submission of your Application is comprised of a $100.00 fee for processing your application (“Application Fee”) and a $400.00 deposit (the “Deposit”).
If BASI does not accept your Application or if you cancel thirty (30) or more days prior to the start of the first module, we shall, as soon as practicable, refund all monies paid by you to us other than the Application Fee.
If you cancel fewer than thirty (30) days prior to the start of the first module, then within thirty (30) days of receiving your cancellation request, we will refund all monies paid by you to us other than the Application Fee and Deposit; because your attendance would be a deciding factor as to whether the course would run as scheduled.
We shall not be obligated to refund any monies if you cancel at any time following commencement of the first module (whether or not you attend that or any other module).
In the event of your cancellation as described above, BASI will allow you to transfer any monies paid by you for the cancelled program to any other BASI program for which you qualify, so long as such program is scheduled to commence within one (1) year of your Application to the cancelled program. In the event that you fail to transfer as aforesaid, BASI shall have no obligation to refund any monies paid by you to us, regardless of when you cancelled or requested a transfer.
Testing fees are not refundable and non-transferable.
Our refund policy is stated in full in the Enrollment Agreement for the particular Program for which you enroll. In the event of any discrepancy between our website and the Enrollment Agreement, the Enrollment Agreement shall prevail.
A: As long as the modules are taken in order, we are happy to accommodate someone who begins in one BASI Host location and then transfers to another. (Additional fees may apply).
A: For Foundation Apparatus and Comprehensive Apparatus students, it is acceptable to miss one module and continue with the course. You are encouraged to make up these modules at another location (additional fees may apply) as soon as possible to keep you on track. Arrangements for make up can be made through BASI Academy. Mat students must make up any missed Modules in order to qualify to take their practical exam and teaching evaluation for the Teaching Credential.
A: If you would like to postpone your training at any time please contact BASI Academy. BASI reserves the right to request a doctor's release prior to your return. Tuition fees will be held and applied when you return to the program.
A: We hope each BASI student will have the opportunity to work directly with BASI instructors. However, we understand that not everyone has access to a BASI studio or instructor nearby. For this reason, we are delighted to allow BASI students to apply one-half of the required observation hours via Pilates Interactive. Working with this BASI approved online software will provide the student a studio experience, including detailed instruction and viewing options.
A: The BASI Comprehensive Apparatus Program requires completion of 200 hours of self-practice (students are encouraged to begin these hours during the Foundation Apparatus Program). Hours can be a combination of individual, semi-private, or group classes. The BASI Mat Program requires 40 hours of self-practice. Whether you are a Foundation Apparatus, Comprehensive Apparatus or Mat student, practice should be done throughout the course and on an ongoing basis. You cannot teach something you do not know and you cannot know it unless you commit to ongoing practice.
A: In most BASI Host locations the modules are spread out over a two- to three-month period. Students seeking a Comprehensive Teaching Credential generally take between four months and one year to complete their hours of observation and student teaching (after Module 6 of the Comprehensive Apparatus Program). However, students have up to three years following the completion of Module 6 of the Comprehensive Apparatus Program to complete the requirements.
A: During the course of your education, there will be a multiple choice exam at Module 6 of the Mat, Foundation, and Comprehensive Apparatus Programs.
For Mat and Comprehensive teaching credentials, a Practical and Teaching Evaluation with be conducted to test your ability to teach BASI repertoire.
A: If you miss the written exam day, you may make it up during another module/program at another location. Arrangements can be made for a proctored exam time at the host studio. All practical exams and teaching evaluations in the U.S. are done at “centralized” testing locations multiple times per year and students pre-register for selected time blocks. Outside of the U.S., testing is done during the last module of the Comprehensive Global Format.
A: If you do not pass your final written exam, it can be retaken at a later date. For Teaching and Practical, we encourage you to retest when you feel 100% confident with your work. Please contact BASI Academy to make arrangements. Additional fees may apply.
