The Dancer's Hip: Improving Turnout, Extensions and the Arabesque

This workshop will discuss the anatomy of the hip joint as it relates to improving turnout and enhancing dance technique.  Participants will learn novel and classic Pilates strength, flexibility, and technique exercises designed to improve turnout, front extensions, side extensions, and the arabesque. Effective cueing and progressions will be provided to help optimize technique and help transfer skills learned on Pilates apparatus and on the mat with elastic bands to the dance technique class. These exercises can be combined with classical Pilates exercises to design an effective and comprehensive conditioning program that will yield marked improvements and keep your dance clients coming back for more, as well as provide variety and challenge for selected non-dance clients.
