This workshop will include a discussion of the sacroiliac joint, its key function as part of the link between the lower extremity and spine, and its common dysfunction and associated pain. Participants will learn Pilates-based exercises than can be used to help restore stability and more desired function of this vital joint. Use of cueing and position modifications will also be provided for selected classical repertoire aimed at preventing injury or aggravation of chronic conditions in this area.
Upon completion of this workshop participants will be able to:
1) Describe key biomechanical factors underlying healthy function and dysfunction of the sacroiliac joints
2) Demonstrate selected exercises that have been designed to address common strength imbalances associated with sacroiliac problems
3) Provide exercise cues and modifications that can enhance sacroiliac stability while reducing the risk of aggravating sacroiliac problems
